Other things we enjoy (and requirements):
- Narrative writing - we want to hear it from YOUR perspective and your side :)
- Final stories will be 1000-2500 words. But don’t worry... If you think this will be a shorter or longer piece, let us know! We’re planning to start a blog soon… so some stories may be featured on that :)
- No plagiarism.
- Authored by a current undergraduate UW student.
- Let us know if you are an artist or can provide photos to go with your story. Not necessary, but will help to supplement.
- Be ready to have fun with us!
- Please read a story from our past issue to understand what writing we’re looking for
Story clips (hooks) we’ve previously enjoyed:
“When I visited Luke Skywalker’s house in the summer of 2014, I was hit by a couple of surprises.” – Chetanya Robinson
“Three months into an eight-month expedition in Nepal, Ian Bellows experienced what most travelers and climbers would consider a nightmare –– an earthquake.”
– Julia Sanders
“That’s when you smell the ocean. The salty sea air washes over you, relieving the taut muscles of a strung-out city face. My mother had always said that saltwater could heal anything, and while modern medicine may frown upon this claim, the scent of the ocean alone was enough to ease the stress throughout my body.”
– Daniel Green
